copywriting

Copy writing is an interesting concept of marketing. A lot of people new to copy writing think that it is a really difficult task. Copy writing is just the art of persuasion with words.

If you have ever persuaded somebody to do something for you then you have the skills to copy write. It is just a matter of sharpening those skills with practice.

Target Ideal Your Ideal Customer

When you begin copy writing the first thing you should think about is your ideal customer. Put yourself in his/her shoes and get inside their head.

Once you know your customer you can anticipate their wants, appeal to the right emotions, and show them how your product/service benefits them.

By doing this you can control the perceived value of your product/service. If you don’t know by now, value always outweighs financial cost in a shopper’s mind.

Benefits Make The Sale

Keep in mind that benefits make the sale, not the features. Most people don’t have the imagination to immediately see “what’s in it for them” just by reviewing the features.

People buy with their emotions, not with their logic. Only benefits tap emotions! Only benefits answer the critical question, “what’s in it for me?”

Features are elements of a product/service that do, or that are. Benefits are the results that do for your customer! They connect at an emotional level by delivering a gain.

All benefits add to the perceived value of your product/service. The higher the perceived value the greater the chance you have for a sale.

Benefits Through Features

An easy way to find out how your product/service benefits your ideal customer is by creating a list of all the features your product/service entails.

Now that you have a list of features, review each one and keeping the ideal customer in mind ask yourself “how would this feature benefit my customer?”

For example, does a certain feature allow your customer to save time especially if they are someone who is particularly busy? That’s a benefit.

Does another feature provide independence and a chance to make decisions for one self? That’s a benefit.

Whatever the features are for your product/service you will find how it can benefit your ideal customer. You can never have too many benefits! ;)
